About the hero.
Within the manga The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Link is the main protagonist and is the character we follow throughout the course of the manga. A courageous youth, Link is shown to be carefree and energetic, but when the situation requires it he can also be calm and serious as well. He is kind and caring to a fault, and is willing to help anyone in need. He cares strongly for his friends, and will do everything in his power to protect the people he loves. The way Link acts is very much like that of a child, even when he is an adult. This is likely due to him being asleep for seven years of his life, and not having the chance to experience that time for himself.
Link comes from the Kokiri Forest located in the eastern parts of the mystical land of Hyrule. The Kokiri Forest is surrounded by the mysterious Lost Woods which makes it closed off from the rest of the world. Protected by the guardian spirit known as The Great Deku Tree it is home to a child-like race, known as the Kokiri, that never grow up. Each Kokiri is accompanied by his or her own fairy, with the exception of Link who does not have a fairy to call his own. Because of this, Link was picked on often by some of the other Kokiri; most notably by Mido, the self-proclaimed "boss" of the Kokiri, who would constantly pick fights with Link who would call him a no fairy looser for not having a fairy. Despite this, however, Link is fairly well liked among the rest of the Kokiri, and even by The Great Deku Tree himself. Still, not having a fairy did bother him as he felt a little out of place and even considered himself to be a bit weird because of the fact that he seemed to have to wait for one.
Link is relatively naive when it comes to the world as he did not know of its existence until he told his best friend Saria about a reoccurring dream he had been having. After Saria told him of what she knew he became curious about it. When he decided he wanted to leave the forest to see and experience the world for himself he wasn't sure on how The Great Deku Tree would react and figured he would say "no". Little did he know, however, that the possibility was more real than he thought it would be after a fairy came to him that following night.
